SPEAKER: Prof Helen McShane
Professor McShane is a member of the Oxford Martin School, Professor of Vaccinology and a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow as well as a Consultant in HIV and Genito-Urinary Medicine.
She gave an overview of the field with a focus on the work of the Oxford group, and explained how she balanced research work and travel, with clinical practice and bringing up a family.
5000 people die every day from TB around the world. The current vaccine, BCG, provides only variable protection against pulmonary TB, the most common form in adults. MVA85A, the new vaccine is currently in phase IIb clinical trials. The project has received a £4 million Strategic Translation Award from the Wellcome Trust and £4m matching funding from Aeras, a non-profit organisation working to develop TB vaccines.

J.P. Morgan is a leader in financial services, offering solutions to clients in more than 100 countries with one of the most comprehensive global product platforms available. J.P. Morgan presented an introduction to careers in technology, and how they support women in that area. Recent Oxford graduates now working at J.P. Morgan also shared their experiences. This was followed by a Q&A session on careers in technology at J.P. Morgan and informal networking.
Canapés, sparkling wine and soft drinks were served as everyone networked and chatted with recent Oxford graduates about how they have found their time at J.P. Morgan.
