Our events in Michaelmas 2014 included:

  • OxFEST Speaker Series ‘Inspiring STEM’: is aiming to showcase the work of the best scientists and engineers in our community and inspire us to follow their footsteps. In Michaelmas 2014, OxFEST hosted two incredible role models: Professor Helen McShane who leads the TB vaccine programme at Oxford (Monday 20th October in Week 2), and Professor Alison Noble OBE FEng – an innovator in the field of Biomedical Engineering – at a joint event with the Engineering Society in Week 5. Speakers at these events discussed their research and how they combined the demands of their professional career and personal life. Every event was followed by a Q&A with the Speaker.
  • OxFEST Workshop Series: the workshops are designed to enhance employability skills such as negotiation and effective communication in light of gender awareness. The first workshop of the Series was Body Language and Communication Styles (Tuesday 28th October 2014) at the Careers Service. In 2014/2015 academic year, the topics of other workshops will include Negotiation, Stakeholder Management, and Assertiveness and Confidence.
  • OxFEST Mentoring Scheme: offers an opportunity for every OxFEST member to find a Mentor to facilitate personal development, gain insight into career paths. In Michaelmas 2014, OxFEST ran a Mentoring Scheme Taster Session & Speed Mentoring Session designed for prospective Mentees and Mentors to get to know each other, learn more about the Mentoring process, discuss the scheme, and how it could benefit them.
  • Annual OxFEST Dinner: this was a fantastic social event held in partnership with 2000 Women programme at St John’s College, Oxford. We were thrilled to welcome 100+ OxFEST members at this event.
